Inmates are not allowed to receive any property which is ordered by family or friends. This includes books or cds that are ordered from outside sources. They must order books, cds, and other approved property through the UCI commissary using vendors approved by the prison. Example: Books can be ordered by the inmate, through UCI, from Barnes and Noble. Inmates can receive a catalog from Edward R. Hamilton, Booksellers and order directly from them. While Edward R. Hamilton has discounted books, they do not have new releases and not all books are available through them.
Inmates must have property contracts obtained through their housing unit or the prison medical provider for any property they have that is not available through commissary.
Family and friends may not send in any books or cds, clothing, or electronics from the outside. The only thing that family and friends may send an inmate is mail. Family and friends can put money on inmate accounts, but it cannot be sent directly to the inmate.
Family and friends can purchase magazine and newspaper subscriptions and have them sent to incarcerated individuals by the publisher. Please check with your loved one to see if the subscription you are considering sending is a publication approved by the facility they are housed in.
