First of all, you rock! Kind people like you are the engine that keeps UPAN moving forward.
We currently have about 30 volunteers who graciously print, address, and mail the UPAN Newsletter with their own time and money. During the holiday season we also send holiday cards to inmates without family or friends on the outside. We currently have a waiting list as different volunteers vary the number of newsletters they can commit to sending on a monthly basis. Some take 5 names, others take 10-15 names. We’re currently mailing to over 220 inmates, so we are about at capacity of what our current volunteers can handle.
The UPAN Newsletter is designed to be exactly 10 pages, so when it is printed on standard 20 lb. bond paper front and back (totaling 5 pages) and sealed in a standard #10 envelope, it can be mailed with one (1) Forever Stamp from the U.S. Postal Service.
A single stamp costs $0.49 and a book of 20 stamps costs $9.80. Plus the cost of printing and the envelopes.
We recommend you send it to the inmate using the UPAN return address:
Utah Prisoner Advocate Network (UPAN)
P.O. Box 464
Draper, UT 84020
After contacting us, one of our organizers will contact you with the mailing information of whatever number of inmates you’ve committed to helping with. If at any time you feel you can no longer assist with this responsibility we ask that you contact us so that we can take you off our volunteer list and arrange for someone else to take over your list. Please also inform us if you find out an inmate has passed away, transferred, paroled, or has been released so that we can keep our records current. Thanks again for your support!
