Faith in Reform: Breaking Every Chain!

January 17, 2015 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm MST

Free

A totally non-boring mini-Summit about grassroots criminal justice reform in Utah

For anyone and everyone who is working for positive change in their faith community, through their professional work, as part of a community organization or even totally on their own!

9:30 to 10:00 – Sign in, grab coffee, find a seat, meet some new folks

10:00 to 10:20 – Welcome, introductions, overview and goals

10:20 to 11:00 – Lots of great information about on-going criminal justice reform projects, programs and efforts happening in Utah, including: updates on the state’s “Justice Reinvestment” reform recommendations (including important changes to drug possession penalties!); news about the highly-controversial Prison Relocation effort; news about important bills that the Utah State Legislature will be voting on in the 2015 Legislative Session; and from-the-frontlines reports from Utah community leaders and activists who are working hard for reform in their own lives and neighborhoods.

11:00 to 11:45 – Meet with other concerned community members, organizational leaders, fellow activists, and interested individuals who care about the same criminal justice issues that YOU care about! Share news about existing resources, talk about what your organization or congregation is up to, get ideas from other folks about what is working for them. Learn about great action opportunities with established groups (such as the ACLU of Utah and the Catholic Diocese) as well as emerging options with new, exciting grassroots groups like UPAN, Utah Prison Support and New Hope Fellowship!

11:45 to 12:00 – Wrap up and share Action Plans & Next Steps

12:00 to 1:00 – Free lunch provided for all participants, with lots of time to network with your fellow community members who are working on criminal justice issues and to meet people who’d LIKE to get more involved. Q&A about state-level criminal justice policy reform for those who want to learn more!

We invite you to share this link with your colleagues, friends, family and partners in advocacy, so that they can join us as well.  Space is limited, so we recommend that you RSVP early.

About the Organizers

ACLU of Utah, Calvary Baptist Church, the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake, Journey of Hope, and the Utah Prisoner Advocate Network

An energized and growing coalition of groups who care about the lives of people trapped at all points along the “criminal justice pipeline” – from young people getting in trouble with the police and family members at risk for going to jail, all the way to loved ones who are currently incarcerated and friends who are trying to put their lives back together after serving their debt to society.
